Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Some minor improvements to the Quick Image Export. Added the ability to modify the cropping rectangle by dragging corners and edges. Also added support for a single Rhino viewport 'picture'. There are now proper tooltips and proper cursors associated with all features.

This is excellent David! I try and sort out my definitions with a .jpg "sidecar" file showing what it does in Rhino's viewport, because it's so much more descriptive that a file name. This is going to save me a lot of time.

Could this feature be automated so that you could "Save with sidecar image" so that when you click save it also saves an image file (with the same file name as the definition) and containing a snapshot of the current gh view and rhino viewport? Just a thought

Having a thumbnail display in explorer would be useful, but I think it's more descriptive to see what the definition does in Rhino, than a snapshot of the components.

"Just the file thumbnails used in Grasshopper. I didn't write anything yet to display thumbnails in Windows Explorer (is that even possible with .NET?)

Answer: yes, it is possible. Maybe someday I'll get around to it."

This would be helpful as well...

I wonder if you could output this as an animated .gif file and just animate one of the sliders using the existing animate function.  This might allow you to do simple animations without having to record mouse-events, etc.  Could be a compromise between Danny's suggestion and still make use of some existing functionality.  Just a thought.  Still, it's a great feature.

Danny, at the moment you get one of each. If there's need for more in the future I can redesign the editor. Putting a viewport into the Grasshopper canvas is something I've been wanting to do for a long time, but I'm still not sure if we have a really good way of doing that. Ferrying bitmaps and mouse-events back and forth between the GH canvas and an OpenGL viewport seems like a very clumsy approach.

Hi David,

as usual your attention to detail is second to none. This will be very helpful.

How many Frames (of Interest and Viewports) are allowed?

and

Can the Viewport Frame be included in Grasshopper as a feature to put on the canvas of a definition all the time?

Thanks. Most of the time watching youtube videos on the lowest possible quality, due to poor connection. Now when turned up the quality, tooltip can be seen clearly.
Sorry for that.

Are you just talking about MRU Tile- or also Explorer- thumbnails?

Comment by David Rutten on April 23, 2013 at 1:09pm

Djordje, it is. Holding either Shift or Control disables rotation (there's a tooltip in the video which very briefly shows this).

It's supposed to be grey, not beige. Though if your monitor is not properly calibrated then it may well appear reddish or blueish. There is a mechanism for disabling the grid for one redraw, I use it for Hi-Res export and also for thumbnails (in the new version, 0.9.0014 still has the grid in thumbnails).

I'll postpone custom backgrounds though for 0.9.0051, it would be too much new code and I don't want to spend another day on this feature.
