Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello David,

Since I had a problem with the galapagos component which still crashed, I decided to remove completely grasshopper and reinstall it.

To do that, i decided to remove the files manually.
I deleted everything from the [AppData > Roaming] folder and from the [AppData > Roaming > McNeel > Rhinoceros > 5.0 > Plug-ins] folder.

I also deleted some stuff from Program files and Program files (x86) but I think these are older files from older versions.

After that, when I run Grasshopper in the Rhino command, the "licence agreement" window is appearing! Which means that not everything is deleted!

Even de Grasshopper command can be used, which is completely wrong...

Nothing is changing after that if I install the newest version of grasshopper.

So, I had to replaced manually the files that I deleted in their respective folders...

And Galapagos is still not working.

I don't have any message error. It's just crashing.

So my question is: how to remove completely grasshopper then I can reinstall everything properly.

Best regards,

Roger

Hi Roger,

indeed sounds like Rhino is loading Grasshopper from somewhere you didn't expect. The latest installations (RHI) should all go into [AppData > Roaming > McNeel > Rhinoceros > 5.0 > Plug-ins].

You can search your harddrive for all files with a *.gha extension (which you tried), or you can search for grasshopper.dll or grasshopperplugin.rhp. Just manually deleting those files should be ok.

You can also find out directly from Rhino where it's still finding Grasshopper. Run the _PluginManager command, find Grasshopper in the list and click on the Details... There should be a location there on your harddrive from which Grasshopper is loaded.

Hi Paul,

You can ignore the registry, Grasshopper doesn't use it. That's just Rhino trying to remember that Grasshopper exists.

I've heard about a similar crash-on-startup bug a week or 2 ago. It was not resolved as far as I remember. It is certainly a very puzzling issue as it seems to be a delayed crash. Let's start by collecting some versioning data. What exact Rhino5 do you have (version and bit-depth, running on what sort of Windows (version and bit-depth)?

Also, I assume this crash doesn't display any error messages or crash-report windows?
