Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I'm an architecture student just beginning to learn Rhino/grasshopper.

This is a simple question: how do you load the Elk plugin in rhino? I placed Elk in the components folder, but do not see any change to the grasshopper interface.

Thanks,

Tobias

Hi Tobias,

Grasshopper automatically loads plugins from several folders. The Components folder is typically for native GHA files only (i.e. my stuff). There's a Libraries folder in the user AppData where third party GHA are typically loaded from.

When you drag+drop a GHA file onto Grasshopper, it will copy it to this Libraries folder. This method of installation only works if Elk has no other files besides the GHA.

The location where you should put GHA for manual installation is:

%appdata%\Grasshopper\Libraries\

Hi David,

I'm still having problems with this. You say "appdata"- I'm a mac user most of the time so I don't know where that is. Is that just the rhino or grasshopper folder? I can't seem to find the folder "libraries".

I've tried drragging and dropping and it does not work. I've also tired installeding the latest grasshopper (Im using 0.90014) but I am getting an error I cannot solve on the installer. "This package is not captible with the installer engine"

The exact location of the appdata folder differs for different versions of Windows. You can easily find yours by starting Windows Explorer and typing %appdata% in the location bar.

Thank you
