Unable to install Grasshopper_0.9.56.0.rhi on Rhino5

Hi!

I'm using Rhino 5.0  (5.1.20927.2230, 09/27/2012)

on Windows 7 x64

and I'm trying to install the latest version of Grasshopper (0.9.56.0) but I can't.

When I open the file,  the assistant shows an error window with this message:

"This package is not compatible with the Rhino Installer Engine".

I've been reading on this link:

http://wiki.mcneel.com/developer/rhinoinstallerengine/overview

And I found this:
http://wiki.mcneel.com/developer/rhinoinstallerengine/dotnet

http://wiki.mcneel.com/developer/rhinoinstallerengine/cpp

I'm not pretty sure if the last two links are the solution, but I don't know how to introduce this changes.
Is there any tutorial or help to solve this problem?

Also I've tried a different thing: change the grasshopper_0.9.56.0.rhi extension to .zip

Then, I've moved all the files inside to the Plugins/Grasshopper folder, but it still opens the previous installed Grasshopper version (0.9.00.14) and still notices me about the new Grasshopper version available to download.

Thank you for your time

the information you get is:

your rhino is too old

Rhino 5.0  (5.1.20927.2230, 09/27/2012)

if you would have read David's notes about the install you would see that you need rhino 5 SR3

hope this helps ....

Thank you to], you are right, I should have read something more... but many thanks for your fast answer ;-)
I'll update and check it again.

Hi, I have Rhino 5 SR3 64 bit (Win7)  but I have the same message: "This package is not compatible with the Rhino Installer Engine". Have you any solutions for me? Thank you very much for cooperation...

Sergio

You'll have to get Rhino5 SR4 or newer. The current release is SR5.

I have SR5 and I am still getting the same message

Hi Pierre,

that is odd. I wonder if the installation of SR5 did not properly update the rhiexec.exe application. Please contact Brian Gillespie (brian@mcneel.com) about this.

I am having the problem as well. Running SR6. Uninstalled all previous versions of grasshopper before trying the install.

Jeff

That is not the same problem as the original post though. have you used the 'repair' feature in the Windows Control Panel for Rhino5? There is a bug (I don't know if it has been fixed in Rhino5 SR6 yet) which disassociates RHI files from the Rhino installer engine. Repairing the Rhino5 installation should fix this. Then you'll be able to double-click the RHI file and it should install.

Hey there,

I have the same problem as Jeff, just that I updated rhight now to Rhion 5 SR7.

I am running it on Win 8.1.

Can't install the new grasshopper release 0.9.66.0

Another question: Is the rhino installer engine preinstalled. Couldn't find it to downoad.

All my Problems startet with the kangaroo physics engine. I was able to install several versions of kangaroo physics. At all times I couldn't open the kangaroo physics tool. Does anyone knows if thats cause I am running it on win 8.1 ?

thanks

Ok, now going to the control panel under programes and features - repair, solved my first problem but not the original problem

I still can't use the kangaroo physics engine ...
