Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Dear all,

I am working with some attractor points on a grid,
that then create a surface.
I recently updated gh and my surface doesn't work anymore..
Before, I had a definition with a grid and attractor points that change the radius of circles and then I make lines (from the centre of the circles) that their length is related to the radius of the circles. I get a grid out of the new line-lengths and finally I was able to make a surface out of it.
With the new version when I open my files, it shows my new surface completely flat,
which means it doesn't not recognise the length value of my lines or something.
Do I have to use another type of line or what then?

i had similar kind of a problem, new grasshopper build is not able to create spline through endpoints of other lines.. it says these point are not valid to create spline... so the tutorial with the staircase doesnt work anymore, no way to create rail... but that was the only problem i found with the latest version
hi Ondrej,
thanks for the reply and letting me know that it is not possible.
I tried another way with 'move' 'points' and it works now..

hi maria

i have checked your file the only thing that you have to do is to link the radius of the circle also with your line component and not link the circle component with your line component

perfect!
it works
thanks :)
Hi To,
the definition you proposed how to solve is working,
but the problem now is that the effect of attractor points is really low
(a lot less than before)
which means that the surface doesn't curve as much as I need it to.
(I even put f(x) parameters to make it more intense but without success..)
Do you have a suggestion,
because I'm spending way too much time on trying to solve it..
thanks,
maria

by the way, in the rhino file there are two baked surfaces,
these were the surfaces I needed and I had from the previous version,
(so I need sth similar, but you can see the difference from the new curved surface)
so i can't believe that your surface looks different to the older version
do you have an image from before?
but the point is you are always sorting the min distance of all points so there can't be an huge amplitude
so the next point is your are not adding the effect of your points due to sorting the min
what you can do is to add a multiply after the least min sorting with an slider than you can adjust the amplitude
but i do not understand what you want to achieve so maybe you can explain what is your goal

hi again,
in the rhino file that i sent you, there are two baked surfaces (these are old)
so you can see the difference.
For the multiplies, I had done that already in the gh file I sent you,
but still it doesn't work so well.
What I need is more intense curves,
but if you see the old surfaces you will understand.

thanks,
maria
hi maria

sorry for the delay had a lot of things to do ;)
so i traced down your problem
notes are inside the file

Hi tom,

no worries,
I had to spend hours on it finally,
but managed to bring it the way I wanted..

thanks anyway,
maria
