algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi, I run GH and Rhino on parallels on my Mac.  It hasn't been a problem for me using Rhino 4 and the last build of GH.  This week I installed Rhino 5 for the first time and GH still worked, but then I updated GH to the current build and it fails to load.  The message the GH start-up window gets stuck at is "loading remote assembly weaverbird.gh.com".  At this point GH just hangs and Rhino 5 hangs and I have to shut down the virtual machine.

If anyone out there running GH on parallels has been able to run the new GH with Rhino 5, I'd love to know. Or maybe you had a similar problem?  I've reinstalled GH a bunch of times, weaverbird too, just in case that would help.  I have not reinstalled Rhino 5, I don't know if that would help.

I know McNeil doesn't support Rhino on virtual machines, this post is for those of you who use virtual machines.

Thanks!

Hi MtoM,

I do use parallels to and it's a known bug of the new GH release, that the initial loading causes problems. The problem is the new recent files function. It's not weaverbird, that just shows up, because it's the last assembly, thats beeing loaded.

There is an issue with recent files, when you opened gh files on Network drives before. The next time you start GH it will take up to 20min. (i waited once ;-) because it's searching for that file. This issue is almost everytime in Parallels, because all your mac files are available, through a virtual network drive. I do use parallels as well and at the moment sucks.

However, you can delete the File Grasshopper_mru.xml (which holds the pats to all recent files) in the Grasshopper Folder. Just copy this path into your windows explorer: %AppData%/Grasshopper

You need to do this on every first start of grasshopper.

Hope this helps

thanks! It worked. How did you ever figure that out?

Without these forums I'd be lost.

There is also a setting in Grasshopper, where you can set the mru list to 0.

So you don't have to delete this xml file all the time:

I had a similar issue and I tried all the above solutions. That didn't solve the problem. Finally though, unchecking all sharing between Mac and Windows in Parallels helped. Sharing the home folder only seems to be working for me as well so far.
