Applying thickness

Hi guys

I have a real newbie question. Basically I want to do this


At the moment I only have a thin surface


How do i apply a thickness to that?

You need to 'extrude' each surface perpendicularly. So you need to find each surfaces normal first. Its not as straight forward as you expect. But simple once you know it.
