That is simply outstanding! LMGTFY..... Michael, golf clap

Ok, I really understood ... I did ... I swear to god ...

or to allah

Hi Ahmed,

To put it into perspective, you have been a member of the Grasshopper forum for 1 week and in that time you have posted nearly 200 times. In just under 9 months time you will have passed David Rutten (the creator of Grasshopper) as the leading poster. Amassing just over 7000 posts. I have been a regular contributor since this forum starter 5 years ago and I am only half way there.

The line between "the only stupid question is the unasked question" and the "why is no one here answering my questions question" needs to be walked with care.

We have all been where you are now. Admittedly it was probably easier for me as there wasn't that much to the program when I started using it and my learning curve has been an incremental one as things get added.

It doesn't help that all the documentation that is around is out of date as soon as it gets published, but that is the nature of software in BETA... things change. I know of a concerted effort by the powers to be to document Grasshopper better. But this is a little way of from completion.

If it helps I can think of two examples of questions that I either should have asked or did and regretted.

Firstly I had no idea you could bake geometry into the rhino document when I first used Explicit History (former name of GH) I mean what the hell does a fried egg have to do with it :) so I simply ignored the plug-in for a month or so. If I'd asked how do I get my Red transparent surfaces into Rhino, I would have been using it a lot sooner.

Secondly I wished for a way to display the output of a component so that I could see it without having to hover over the tool tip each time. I didn't realise that Post-it Note (or Panel as it is now due to copyright issues) had an input as well as an output.

The most important thing to remember is that Grasshopper is an extension of Rhino. By not knowing Rhino you are at a greater disadvantage than the rest.

If you don't know how you should go about modelling something in Rhino how are you going to be able to develop meaningful algorithms in Grasshopper.

Danny

Thank you for taking the time writing this.

But honest: I have troubles to get to know GH ... You want me to start with Rhino? I guess I will stay with GH for a while ... But thank you for this advice ...

You are right about me writing too much ... Everybody hates me now ... But it has always been like this ... I don't mind ...

Anyway: I will use the search button, before I ask any stupid question, that has already been asked thousand times!

I have troubles to get to know GH ... You want me to start with Rhino

Yes. That was the point of saying it. Grasshopper is a plug-in not a stand alone program.

To do something in Rhino you do it once to do something multiple times in Rhino you have to repeat yourself over and over. Grasshopper is the tool that lets you define the process to do it once and then you can repeat it/ tweak it by changing the parameters.

Most of the problems you are facing with Grasshopper is because you don't know how to approach it in Rhino

Unlike Grasshopper there are a huge number of tutorials available that aren't moving targets by the software changing day to day.

It's a right of passage that everyone here has to model a Duck I really really think you should look into it.

Ok, then. I should start with rhino ... But after getting the thickness of a line and the subscribt for text ... I'm almost done with the exercise my supervisor gave me ... After this ... I'm gonna have to get the guys in the rhino discussion forum angry at me I guess ... I like you danny ... you are a good guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one to whom that icon primarily suggests a fried egg (perhaps a British cooked breakfast thing)

Seems the real unanswered question here is what is David's recipe for baked eggs ?

I tried a slice of pizza (looked disgusting), a loaf of bread (looked dull) and some other foodstuffs. The egg simply worked best in the end.

This, incidentally, is a baked egg.

I actually bake my eggs for breakfast anyway. Put some Bake-o-glide on the simmer plate of an aga and crack your eggs right on top and then shut the lid and it makes the most perfect "fried" egg without any grease what so ever.

"crack your eggs right on top"

wow! :p ;) :)
