algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Basically, I trying to construct a general scafold structure for a class project (reproducing the Spencer Dock Bridge by Future Systems). My idea is to measure the distances between the points on the water surface (the base plane) and the project points on the brep. This data is the one I'll use to extrude the subdivided base surface (not really sure that'll work though).
My current problem is that instead of measuring the distance between the original points and it's projected version, it measures the distance between the original point and every other projected point. I've been told this can be solved through shift lifts, but I'm not really sure why.

Oops, sorry about that, forgot...
please see attached
you had to flatten one of the points (segmented line)
cheers
Odd, I swear I tried using graft and flatten.
One more question, when extrude the geometry using the measured distances, it gives me a multitude of single boxes. Any way to obtain a single box?
Pretty much. My current problem is that each extruded "platform" has it's own 6 bounding surfaces. is there any way to simplify that? As in just have the "contour" surfaces?
Additionally, I'm trying to use solid differences to create the space between the 2 volumes, but nothin's appearing.
Thanks for the help guys :)
Looking at the Spencer Dock Bridge are you trying to duplicate the EPS foam blocks that were used above the steel false work or are you experimenting with the fabric form method and in need of open boxes to support the edges of the fabric? By my question you can see that I'm not quite understanding what it is you're attempting to generate.
