hello all,

what is the difference between a line-like curve and a linear curve.

A Line-like curve is linear and contains only two control-points. A Linear curve might contain a number of consecutive co-linear segments. A Line-like curve is what happens when you convert a Line to a Curve. A Linear curve is when a nurbs-curve happens to have all its control points in a row.

Can you convert a line-like curve into a line?

You can input the line-like curve into the "Line" parameter.
Or if that does not work, use the end points to create a line:
