Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

What I would like to achieve is a definition that allocates a random arrangement of colours from a predefined set of say 5 colours to a set 100 separate pieces of geometry (boxes). After the first random allocation I would like it to tell it to apply a further random allocation from the same set of colours and so on. so that the boxes display a changing mosaic effect based on the 5 colours.

I hope this makes sense! I'm working on a fairly old copy of grasshopper (version 0.6.0059) so would like the defenition of suit or a screenshot.

I'm really not sure where to begin with this one so any help would be fantastic.

Dear David

Many thanks for the quick reply, I think I've got that.

How would I go about baking the results?

No worries...I figured it out.

Many thanks again.

Great solution !!!

How can this be rendered ?

hi david,

is there are possibility to work further with the created colors inside grasshopper?

opportunities that are available for example in Photoshop!

if, than i am sure that you know it.

i found two example, which are for me a device, but a few more examples would be better.

Next version will have a colour wheel as well. Good for creating palettes of related colours.

exactly what i need! :)

how long we have to wait?

Could be quite a while. I'm in the middle of moving to a different house in a different country so my development schedule is pretty fragmented and I can only focus on small projects. However the next release will be based on the Rhino Installer Engine and that will take a lot of testing and development. I'm also working on implementing a better code editor for the VB/C# components which is a big job.

We look forward to further developments.

sorry david, but still a question.

is it possible to assing gradient color in each quad in your pict, and rotate the gradient colors in different directions?

something like this:

thanks in advans

If you want to assign local colour then you either have to use textures or meshes with vertex colours. Grasshopper doesn't support bitmaps and textures at this point but it is possible to create custom vertex colours.

I don't know if you want these gradients to be random or if the gradient should depend on some local property and be based on a single colour. But both are possible.
