Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi, is there anybody realized there is a bug for the Offset Tool component in the latest version of GH 0.8.0003. I can't input negative value for the offset distance (when input negative value to the Distance input the Offset component turns red), so it's impossible to offset a closed curve inward.

I tried to reverse the plane, but still doesn't work, the offset is always outward.

It's a bug or my own computer problem?

Hi Jinge,

can you post the curve that fails to offset?

Hi, David,

I have solved the problem by VB Script, using curve.offset.

But the offset component of Grasshopper is just weird, sometimes only positive offset distance works, sometimes only negative values. And I find I can use the same GH file in Rhino 4 to offset to both sides by setting positive and negative distances.

I uploaded both Rhino 5 and GH files.

Thanks.

And by the way, my rhino has been suffering a start up error warning "failed to create instance of VBScript scripting engine". Everything in rhino seems fine except for the Rhino Script Editor and Run Script. I don't know when this happened because I ran some rhinoscripts one or two months ago. I found a page about this on rhino3d, but I folllowed their methods, not working for me.

And I also have the testerrorcheck problem, it always shows up and I need to set the errorchecking CommandErrorsDialog off every time I open a saved file.

They are not GH problems, but wondering if you know something.

Thanks.

Yes I am having the same problems. Works fine for a positive offset but doesn't like it when it is negative.

Jinge, can you post you VB Script, using curve.offset please.

Sorry Paul,

I didn't visit this forum for quite a long time. I almost forget about it. I'm travelling and I don't have the script by my side now, I will try do find it later.

Jinge

I'm having trouble with negative offset values. Closed triangular curve only offsets in positive direction.

David

Can you have a look at the Offset curve command in GH 0.8.0007. It appears to be totally up the duff.

The component is totally unpredictable. Using the same method (a simple referenced rhino rectangle) some times it offsets in the positive direction, and other times in the negative direction (using the same offset value). Other times, it does't offset in one direction. I though it might be a tolerance or unit issue in the rhino file but it all appears to be fine. Frustrating!

Hopefully David is very nearly ready to release the next version.

Hi,

I am trying to offset curve  inward along a surface so can create Windows and run Energy Plus. I did it successfully for one wall but got an error when doing for another. I would appreciate any help.

Erorr: curve offset failed

HI Michal

What version of Grasshopper are you using? I'm on 0.8.0066 and it is working for me with your geometry. I know that for previous versions the offset curve component wasn't working properly.

Hi,

I am using Rhino 4 and Grasshopper 0.9.0014. I tested your approach with Wires instead of edge and seems to work. This means that works better wires ...thanks for help

Ps. Is there any way I can do all wall at the same time or need to do each separately?

Yep - when you right click on the surface geometry component ('Brep wall_windows') select 'Set multiple surfaces' instead of 'set one surface'.
