algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi Everyone,
Lately I have been having some problems in trying to do this simple operation. I have generated a spiral surface and now, I would like to trim some parts away.
It might be a very simple thing but i cannot understand what is wrong.
The problem is at the end of the script; (attached) all I would like to do is trim the spiral surface with the truncated cone at the side.
Thanks,
Matthew

Hi Tim,
Try attached file.
Btw, what does that curved surface represent? A ramp?
Hi djorje,
Thanks a lot for your reply. The method you used was the first method that i tried but it gives a very strange error "invalid surface". In fact it is impossible to further build up on that geometry (and even baking it)
That was my reason why I was opting to use the solid intersection tools but still without success.
The surface is a module of a project in working right now at TU Delft. By mirroring the module on the x and y axis you get this 'infinite' surface. Hopefully should be a park/water filtering system by the end on the semester. :)
thanks again for your reply.

Thanks. Very interesting.
The supporting structure for both spirals will be made of concrete?
yes concrete. The intention is to cut EPS foam with a robotic arm and a hot wire; connect the EPS blocks with post tension cables and then use the foam for both insulation and formwork.. not sure exactly how it will work.. a lot of trial and error.. mostly errors :)
I have just tried baking it, and it works.
Sounds very interesting.
It would be nice if you could upload the photos of that park/water filtering system, once it's completed.
Wow very strange, can't understand.. yeah I opened the one you sent me.. yet it is still giving me the same invalid surface.
May i ask.. what system are you running it with?
I am trying on both Rhino 4 and 5 and grasshopper 9.001 and 9.0014 - both same result
I am using Rhino 4, SR8, grasshopper 0.9.0014 and windows XP.
Try opening the last two files I attached (both .gh and .3dm).
It seems you have the 0.9.0001 on Rhino 4 and 0.9.0014 installed on Rhino 5.
Install the 0.9.0014 for Rhino 4 from here.
That will probably solve the problem.
Managed !! I rebooted the system, uninstalled rhino5, installed 9.0014 on rhino4.. and now it works in the same way as yours.
Thanks a lot for your time and interest djordje.
