algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hi community!

As this is my first post, I hope not to ask a too stupid question(s).

Is there a reason I dont understand, that you can not make an expression in the domain box component? In the center box component you can. I really wonder why and I didn't find answers by searching the discussion, thats why I ask.

Thanks in advance,

max

Hi Max,

domain box uses domains, which are not supported in the expression language. Center Box uses numbers, which are. Number parameters can always have expressions, Domain parameters can never have expressions.

Hi David,

thanks for your answer. I'm glad that answer isn't too obvious.

Is there a possibility to make a center box (with the basepoint at the bottom center) without the work around of using the "-a/2, b/2" domain component?

regards,

max

I wouldn't call that a work around, that's the direct way of achieving it. I don't think it's a good idea to add yet another box component but it would be nice if expressions could support domains. It could use the word "to" if you want to operate individually on start and end values, like in the text panel component.

Hi,

As Vicente says, it is not a workaround. So I fixed a Symmetric Domain user object which takes a mid value and a length. I really felt it was missing, as well as a Domain Length component.

You can get the domain length by connecting a domain to a number parameter.

Thanks I didn't know that!

Hi,

thanks for your advices and the object Fred - its helpful!

There is a lot to learn, but the more I get involved in this, the more fun it gets! :)
