Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Ok, I'm new to grasshopper, I've been really interested in the adaptability side of scripting. I've been scripting for around 3 months and I’ve come across an issue which is really frustrating.

I'm trying to create an adaptable canopy made up from a surface which has been divided in to a number of squares. lets say 5 x 5.

I want the canopy to respond by closing (rotating the squares) 90 degrees. when an attractor comes close to the square,

Is there a way to reference multiple squares without having to add a massive piece of script for every square.

Hope this is a clear question?

The Script is attached.

Can you post a screenshot of your definition please? (File -> Export-Hi resolution image -> Ok)

Screen Shot as requested

There is only one paddle in the definition however I want multiple paddles to respond to the single point

Thank you for the screenshot.
Will something like this suit your needs?

Legend!

Pretty much what I’ve been trying to figure out for a few days.

I have one question, can the rotation axis be in the centre instead of the edge?

Again thanks for the help so far!

Yes it can.
I am just not sure if you want this center rotation axis to be seen as part of a construction or not.

If not, pay attention at these two components on the far right of the definition:

Just delete them, and center rotation axis will vanish.

Hi Thanks alot for all the help.

Think I owe you a beer!

I'm having trouble changing the sensitivity of the the panels, I assumed the slider attached to the multiplication button would do this.

Can I set the sensativity so it will open quicker but only when the point is within say 1 panels distance from the effected panel.

Again sorry for the multiple requests.

Try experimenting with Graph mapper curve.

If it's not working, try changing the graph type ( Rich click on Graph mapper -> Graph types ).

Thanks for the beer :)
