algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello everyone,
Iv been trying to develop a voronoi facade for a building, and i think it would be easiest to just create a surface and them map the voronoi to it. Im having some difficulty using the map to surface component as i have had no success with it so far. Ideally, I would like to map a varonoi pattern to a curved surface.
Any help would be great.

This method distorts too much the voronoi cells. It's better to just place points over the surface, create 3d voronoi cells and intersect those cells with the surface.
Personally I like the distorted look.
Ah, if it's purely for aesthetics, whatever floats your boat. For any practical application of the algorithm, 3d cells is the way to go.
specifically for structure.
Michael,
This is great. Because the surface im working on wont be that deformed, the distortion is negligible. Plus it helps remove the uniformity without the need for more components.
Thanks a bunch,
Mike
Iv also been looking at other peoples works. Seems like every voronoi iv seen has different characteristics. Iv seen Weighted bubble like voronoi structures. The mapping will work just fine. Is it much more difficult to achieve the following results?
The first link is by Andrew Kudless, of Matsys

This other Project is by one of my previous instructors at Berkeley Stepanie Lin now a student at harvard gsd.

For this one it seems that the geometries could have been developed outside of grasshopper, maybe in 3ds Max.
I am currently reworking a project from my last studio for my portfolio. The concept was algae energy. So I felt that some sort of vornoi facade would be somewhat more organic and fit for this program. Iv been using grasshopper for a year now but I can only do very basic things with it. How could I create something similar to Andrew Kudless 3d voronoi drawings that he has on his site?
Im looking for more resources on this topic. But your help is much appreciated.

Thanks!!! This is very useful!!!
hi rwnb
please post your file

and similiar the same problem that i've just found.
