algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi,
do you update from an older version of Karamba? If yes make sure to remove all traces left.
Type the command 'GrasshopperDeveloperSettings' in the Rhino text window and check whether one of the library paths listed there points to the directory where 'karamba.dll' was installed to. Try also to flip the 'Memory load *.GHA assemblies...' checkbox there.
cheers,
Clemens
Hi Clemens,
This is the first time that I try Karamba, no previous versions installed (also, it's a new PC).
I installed Karamba with the default settings (default folder) and added the path to the GrasshopperDeveloperSettings. When the 'Memory load ...' checkbox is unticked, Karamba will not load in Grasshopper (i.e. the Karamba tab is not available). The checkbox has to be ticked and Rhino launched again.
cheers,
wim
You installed Rhino5-64bit together with karamba x64? Is it the trial or free version of Karamba 0.9.084? Do you also have Rhino4 installed?
Hi,
- Rhino4 is installed (prerequisite to be able to install rhino5)
- Rhino5-64 bit
- karamba_0_9_084_FREE_GH_08_0066_x64.msi is the installer I used.
I guess Grasshopper installs "under Rhino4" by default and in order to run it in Rhino5 you need to manually find and install it in the PluginManager. I just pulled the License component from Karamba onto the canvas and that, too, throws an exception for fem.karambaPINVOKE. A problem with paths?
cheers,
wim
Hi,
this error message you constantly get means that the karamba.dll (the c++ part of Karamba) can not be called by karamba.gha which contains the user interface part. In your case it has probably to do with the search pathes that GH uses for searching for dlls. Try to place a copy of karamba.dll in the standard search path of Win7 (I think this is e.g. 'C:\Windows\System32\').
I have separate copies of grasshopper for Rhino4 and Rhino5. This allows one to use 32- and 64-bit versions of GH plug-ins at the same time. I tried to reproduce your error by using the GH-version of Rhino4 for Rhino5 and installing Karamba x64 there, but did not succeede.
After installing Karamba these files should have been added in the folder 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Rhinoceros 4.0\Plug-ins\Grasshopper': 'karamba.dll', 'karamba.gha', 'KDTreeDLL.dll' and 'libiomp5md.dll'. Is this the case on your computer?
best,
Clemens
Hi Clemens,
I copied the 3 dll files (KDTreeDLL.dll, libiomp5md.dll, karamba.dll) into the 'C:\Windows\System32' folder and now Karamba works. Cool!
Note that, using the default settings during installation, Karamba installed those dll's and the karamba.gha file into the 'C:\Program Files\Rhinoceros 5.0 Beta (64-bit)\Plug-ins\Grasshopper' folder; not the ...Program Files (x86)\Rhinoceros 4.0... folder.
Thanks for your help!
cheers,
wim
Hello,
I'm having a problem with this as well. I too tried to re-create the Quick Start example and tried loading the "simple-parametric-beam" example (screenshot attached). No other versions of Karamba are installed. Running Rhino4 SR9 w/ Grasshopper 0.8.0066 on Win7, 64-bit. Is this WIP-version of Grasshopper incompatible?
I would really like to see this tool in action!

Rhino4 is a 32bit application. Make sure to use the 32bit-version of Karamba together with it.
Best,
Clemens
What version of Rhino do you use? What OS? Did you upgrade from an older version? Did you try all of the above?
Best,
Clemens
Hi,
I tried all of the above and karamba still doesn't work.
I have Rhino 4.
Rhino 5 64 bit.
Win 7.
Please help!
I tried all of the above solutions and the ones in the manual,
nothing helps.
