algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi all,
I have a new problem (nothing new about me having problems). I have a set of meshes which have at least two parallel faces with the same number of points describing the faces. The points on both planes also completely describe the object. Now I would like to export this information into a text file. What I essentially need is an ordered list of points on two parallel planes which can be lofted and capped to generate the same shape. Another way to say this is that I am trying to describe a prism by extracting the top and bottom vertices in separate lists.
In the case of my geometry, all the parallel faces are vertical (with normal vector having 0 z-component). I've done a whole bunch of different experiments but can't figure out how to recognize the two parallel planes that contain all the points for the mesh.
I have attached a file that would hopefully make this a bit more clear.
Any ideas?
Thanks again for all the help,
Ali

Hi DeDackel,
Thank you for your solution. Unfortunately if I select a different mesh, the solution breaks down:
The solution produces top and bottom surfaces instead of side surfaces. I haven't looked in detail to figure out if this is an easy fix. I'll let you know what I've come up with. If you have other ideas, I would love to here them.
Thanks again for your help,
Ali
Hi DeDackel,
Sorry for the late follow-up. Well I've managed to get it to work. I don't think this is the most elegant method for doing this, but it is at least working. If you think there is any improvements that can be made, I would love to see them.
Thanks again for your help :) Without your help I would have been bald by now!
Regards,
Ali
sorry ali
i forgott to click "follow"
I just cleaned up my desktop and found your file. I am glad you made it...
