algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello world, I thought I could shear I difficulty I am having with you.
I have managed to create a set of beams that I am satisfied with ( a rotational symmetric shell ). However, I have alot of difficulty with the interpetation of the load.
It is crucial for me to be able to use the "local to mesh/global/global proj." feature of MLoad. I am not able to discretize the area between the beams to the mesh faces and corresponding positions for point loads. Do you have any advice here?
I tried drawing a projection of the shell and 'cuting' a plane surface into corresponding pieces. It worked, but the point loads don't transfer to the positions of the beam-intersections. Moreover, this process seems to demand alot of computing time, and I doubt it being very successful in a shape-optimizing prosess.
Minor questions;
- how does Karamba convert the load on a mesh-face into point loads? Does the the load on one mesh-face correspond to only one point load, or is it divided in anyway and distributed to the adjacent nodes?
- is the quantity of the resultants of the loads in "local to mesh/global/global proj" equal, or only the components parallel to your vector?

For others to be helpful, nice practice is to have a picture describing the problem somehow (.. and also for us).
So, the mesh load component takes the load vector [kN/m2] on each face and distributes the resultant load [kN according to mesh face area] according to triangular areas of influence onto the face's vertices. if the vertices aren't actual nodes of the karamba model, the nearest neighbor is taken (spatially). this indeed poses some problems if you want to project a load onto a spatial structure underneath, since the nearest neighbor isnt always straight down verticall - we probably should investigate on efficient methods of projecting a load onto a structure (which isn't trivial for the general case). but if it is a rotational symmetric shell in your case, you can easily create a mesh with the 'mesh from points' component that you then use for mesh load.
regarding the quantity of the resultants, i think they are not equal. but you can easily check this by looking at the support reactions.

By entering the keywords 'mesh points' I don't get any such component. The closest one is the Mesh (Create a mesh from scratch) component, put it requires a mesh face as input. Do you have a picture f it?

The component you refer to I can't find. There is one called 'surface from points', with the same logo, but it does not work as desired (picture). I tried varying the slider, but the result is not clean or non-existing. Might there be a difference between the versions?
i m using the latest gh release 0.66 .. if it's not in there, it is probably contained in uto's mesh edit tools which are superuseful. the cant be distinguished that easy .. sry
