Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi All,

A new DIVA for Grasshopper assembly is available (version 2.0!), including several updates and bug fixes.  Download it here as part of the new DIVA 2.0 installer.

The biggest change from v1.9.0.2 is that the Daylight Component can run independently of the Rhino toolbar.  That is, you no longer need to "prime" the component with a toolbar simulation.  Geometry, simulation type, and simulation parameters can be specified directly in Grasshopper.  (See the DIVA-for-GH change log below.)

2.0 is the first commercial version of DIVA-for-Rhino.  Non-educational users will have to buy a license to use the new Rhino toolbar, but the Grasshopper components will remain free for everyone.  (Yay!)  We're looking forward to pushing the Grasshopper components forward, and, as always, relying on your feedback and ideas to make the them better.

DIVA for Grasshopper 2.0.0.1 Updates / Fixes

  • Daylight Component has been updated. It no longer needs a DIVA-for-Rhino simulation to “prime” it or change simulation parameters. Several analyses can be run directly from the component with changes to weather file, simulation type/parameters, and outputs selected from the drop down menu in the component.  (This means several daylight components can be used with different analysis in the same definition.)

  • A “write only“ function has been added to the Daylight Component, so all relevant scene simulation files will be written to the project name folder. This will simplify populating a large number of files with geometry variants which can then be run from their respective batch files.

  • Scenes with geometry/material references from a DIVA-for-Rhino simulation can still be optionally included in a grasshopper analysis.

  • Files in millimeter units were sometimes causing Viper's planar-surface test to return false negatives. This has been fixed.

  • Units for material-thicknesses and R-value inputs are more clearly labeled on the Construction Assembly component (units are still imperial.... but an imperial/metric toggle is coming soon).

  • Right-clicking on each component, you will see an "Online Help" item, which links to the appropriate section of the new online user guide (http://diva4rhino.com/user-guide).

  • All components now have a built-in "upgrade detector."  When a new DIVA for Grasshopper assembly is available, a green download button will appear at the upper-left corner of the components (provided you're online).

  • 2.0.0.1, and all future assemblies, are backward compatible.  No more de-serialization problems opening old files.

Happy simulations!

Thank you, Jon and the DIVA team!

May I ask where to download the latest version of DIVA for Grasshopper?

- Cheers, Ji

Sorry, I figured it out: it's in the C:/DIVA folder once the DIVA for Rhino is installed.- Ji
