algorithmic modeling for Rhino
dear experts,
i have doubts about choosing the software for structural analysis to connect it with gh and gallapagos for dynamic optimisation of profiles and any other combinations..
which one u would recommend if the target of tests is a small wooden pavillion or a roof (covered area 40m2)?
thnx, Smier

thx (:
any additional resources, examples?
What structural analysis software do you have access to?
My approach has been to make available links to various "popular" packages in use. Galapagos interaction can be achieved with Oasys GSA, SAP2000, Robot, SpaceGass and my own (basic) structural solver Egret.

My example is pretty basic, but users have applied it to more advanced problems (sorry, don't recall any demonstration links).
Here's a video demonstration:

If you're a student, Robot is available for free (as is Egret and Karamba), but it is a very slow model transfer so if you have access to any others I would recommend them.
Hope this helps.

i have oasys i can have sap2000... but its hard to decide because there is not enough resources, and it only depend from things i can achive..
anyway, karamba is not related to any external software?
For accurate information on Karamba, I'd contact the developer or refer here:

I understand the pro version has means to export the model to RSTAB. I think the solver library that is called from the grasshopper addon has been developed by Clemens or adapted from another project.
There is not a single answer to determine which solver is best. Some projects the process will be quicker by not exchanging to an external engine. Others will have skyline solvers and advanced features (load cases, combinations, non linear, links, finite elements) that will enable computation of the most accurate result. Also commercial software is likely to have undertaken ISO certification and the like, and is trusted due to time prooven performance.
My personal opinion is not to let the tail wag the dog. Which software would you prefer to use without galapagos? And if possible to do some testing of the available alternatives to choose. If you already have access to Oasys and SAP these are certainly highly recommended by me (if my opinion is worth anything).
i am already using grasshopper in a project to define shape with some energy analysis tool and with gallapagos working out dynamic optimisation. i just like this moment of direct connection between shape and information.. thats why i would use gh+gallapagos + structural analysis tool.
i just wonder which plugin (software) can give me the best oportunity to experiment with a small roof construction? i understand there are a lot of complicated things that can be done, but for now i would try playing with wooden beams, supported from the computer about stablity and ability to hold cover, windows....
