Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

So a few weeks ago searching google I came across a few people who were using grasshopper and I think excel data to create a music visualizer. Basically, I think, a spectrogram software was saving the sound data to an excel file and then grasshopper was reading it to create vertical bars representing the spectrogram reading.

I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could find these projects/examples as I cannot find it on google again no matter what I search.

Thanks,
Adam

The way I was thinking of it is in two parts.
1. use Processing to analyze audio data, exporting the filtered value data into an excel file.
2. use the tutorial by Liquidtectonics below (how to use grasshopper to read excel files) to import the data into Grasshopper.

not necessarily on the same track, but here is a video showing live audio input into Grasshopper via the gHowl UDP receiver (still in testing mode). Here I use the LineIn Minim Libary example (for Processing) and feed it some live audio (my voice is in there somewhere):

I wonder if David ever thought that Grasshopper would be getting used the way you guys are pushing the boundaries.
Interesting video, I technically know how to get all of this working, but there was an example that I came across on accident one day and now I cannot find it when I actually needed it for reference. Although, your video Luis is fairly similar to the one I saw.

And yeah, it is amazing how far grasshopper has come in its short life, I think one of the most important features of grasshopper which has allowed it to come this far is that it is free and has an enthusiastic community who just keeps pushing it forward.

Hi Luis,

That's really awesome. I'm working on a script to visualize music too. I don't need live music input. Once I have all the music notes, is there a way to input them to the movement them? Like read the notes every half seconds?

Thanks!

Jing

YES!, this is exactly the website I was looking for. Thank You!

Hello Adam,

I´m doing a similar project but the input data is from the resistance of plants (Wheatstone bridge), we can exchange informations if you want, ok? How is your project going? my email is mari.schetini@gmail.com

Hi Everyone,

I am having the processing scripting that captures sound and makes some lines in a 3 Dimension view and would like to make a live visualization of it in grasshopper to see it as a mesh there at the same time. is there any suggestions to do it? appreciate your help!
