Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hi david

it just comes into my mind that sometimes it would be great if it could be possible to select the referenced object in the rhino canvas with the grasshopper container (curve, brep, etc...)
that would really speed up the things working with huge drawings with zoom selected ... what do you think?

Yes, it would be great, but it's very, very difficult. All selection events in Rhino are handled by Rhino, and they only work on objects that Rhino is aware of, i.e. objects in the document. Grasshopper draws its geometry on top of the document, so I'd have to re-implement all the selection logic.

I've raised this issue with the core developers, and there are some possible lines of inquiry, but they will all be very difficult to pursue.

I recently posted a similar thread to this, I believe - could this be done by sending commands back to the Rhino command line (using, for instance, Nathan Miller's tools in Lunchbox)? It's easy enough to tell Rhino to "Select", but how do you tell it what to select without physically clicking something in the Rhino window? I figured, if Grasshopper is using some kind of referential information from the Rhino window, could that same information not be used in the Rhino command line?
