algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello everyone, I’m excited to be part of this landscape parametrics discussion group! I was curious if anyone knows of groups/firms that are using Grasshopper to study behavioral psychology and experience in landscape architecture? I’ve been tinkering with this idea of “translating” human behaviors in the landscape to Grasshopper components in order to isolate and study certain variables and be able to parametrically manipulate the effect and study the modeled outcomes (for example studying human reactions to changes in light and increases in adrenaline/nervousness in the physical landscape, and using that data, observational or quantifiable, to create grasshopper scripts that allow us to study that effect alongside, say, a proposed public park, so that we may anticipate perceptions of comfort, safety, and aesthetic preferences). Lofty goal I would admit easily, not well fleshed out either, but I’d love to discuss the concept if anyone has any thoughts. Cheers!

Hello,
I love the concept and could see it potentially manifesting itself in installations that utilize sensors, Arduino, and servos to capture reactions or mannerism and then adjust it self accordingly via servos. For instance if you could define parameters for how open peoples eyelids are (to indicating squinting) via a sensor, this input could be relayed to a GH definition via Arduino and subsequently control a servo that dims or brightens a light. Then maybe there is the opportunity to relay this information to lists and calculate what an optimal light condition may be in a particular area.
This is just a quick thought but I would definitely look into the work that is occurring with Arduino and sensing in relation to Grasshopper. Sorry that I dont have a technical solution for you but hopefully this will spark some ideas!

Hey thanks for the reply Matt, I will look into Arduino and how it relates to grasshopper. That's exactly what I was imagining, a process that read physical responses and adjusted to them/reacted to them in real time, would be an interesting approach to design conceptualization. No worries on the technical solution, idea sparking is exactly what I'm hoping to do!
Thanks again, Cheers!
I've thought about this too. Although the goal seems too far too reach, there are a couple of studies out there simulating user patterns with micro climate as a basis. You might also wanna look at Levy flight where vectors randomly move based on certain variables.
Welcome to
