particular outcome is achieved but the disadvantage of having to adjust the definition for different cases. but I think that there is the road ...

I will try to sort the list based on the length of the curves and then "filter" with this approach so as to leave only the curves "long" which are those that close the "islands".

Very clever your approach, but the "bars" are of different thicknesses!

Attached is the geometry gym solution if you're interested.  Embedded into the code is routines to (hopefully) fillet around short edge curves etc that can be present in voronoi diagrams.  The grasshopper definition can become complex (like the code) if you have to handle them.
