Dear all,

You help me all a lot trough this site, but I really need to ask for a help with a few questions with my GH definitions (I am beginner in GH).

 

I want to make a worm like structure for my energy efficiency design!

Until now I made a:

1. Following "Tessellated Folding" Tutorial from http://livecomponents-ny.com, I made a line, divide it, made circles and loft it.

2. Then I find Midpoints, move it, and make circles.

2. With help of "cull pattern and curve on surface by digitaltoolbox.info" , I made a def. for InterCrv (or Arcs) trough 1. and 2. Points.

That's all.

 

My questions are:

1. How can I make a branches form divided Loft surface points? Now I have 64 Paths with N=4... I need 8 Path (Surface dividing Number) and N=8 (also SRFs dividing Number)? I need this to close all circles from new 8 points, or make arcs, or whatever!

2. How to make a Surface form 1. and 2. Points? 

If I Loft it, it makes a surface, but not exactly one!!!And I use GH 0.6; there is no "Surface from Edge" option. No flip Matrix neither!

3. What definition do I need for applying my worm on multiply curves? (I figurate out a definition for measuring a longest crv, if it helps). I think that problem is in "Sectional Geometry Controller" ( I took it from livecomponents-ny.com Tessellated Folding tutorial), it is just one line for one crv.

 

I would really appreciate some help on any of these questions! I am spending too much time spinning around ;(

you need the latest GH version.

 

1. you dont post any image of the param view to see the data structure, but probably you can use the path mapper or list-cull components.

2. i dont understand what you want to do, but there is a planar srf that accept edges curves in the same plane and a edge surface component, and i think there is a vb.net component for edge srf command here in the forum that you can use in older versions of gh (again... use latest GH version).

3.  if your definition its a good definition, you only need to graft the list of you multiples curves.

 

Maybe if you attach your definition someone can help you...

 

Oh, i forgott the most important part. GH deff. :)

Is the the surface that is not quite what you want?  If so then are you trying to use the helical longitudinal curves to generate the surface?

Hi Igor, I'm not sure I understand correctly, but I deleted some components from your definition to make it work, and made another approach to this too. Hope it helps.

Hi Igor, I'm not sure I understand correctly, but I deleted some components from your definition to make it work, and made another approach to this too. Hope it helps.

Thank you very much for your time and a circles def.

I will get a new GH version today (I don’t have some of your Sets parameter)

The Loft Surface is a similar to my wished , but not that one. Loft is connecting circles on her\his arbitrary way, not counting the wireframe wich is made from Crvs from points.

Like a wireframe in a picture with a last def. from you, such exact Surface I need. Maybe some sweep rail, where a every 2 circles are Rail and a arc (trough 3 point) or segment of interCrv is a section Curves.

At the endeffekt I want to accomplished a worm like a nest, something like a worm city, where people will live in a worms , to create microclima inside ( In direction of B. Fullers dome), it term that one ring(segment) of each worm is a place for 50 or more habitants. Prox. Pro worm 250-500 habitants.

My steps are:

  1. To make a Srf’s from accomplished wireframe.
  2. Then evaluate this surface with Ecotect (that is why I am still using GH 0.6 because of Uto’s plugin for 0.6 and 0.7). And I also have a Rhino 0.4 Sr6
  3. Make a sun reacting facade or pneumocells.
  4. Make a def. to assign a GH def. on multiply Crv’s. For this I need also evaluate a Crv’s length, because of subdivisions number. If I assign the same divisions number to all Crv’s , the longest and the shortest will be divided at same div. Num.! What we don’t see in a nature.
  5. Make a living space inside of worm, with vertical farming, residents, parks etc....  Dividing a worm Srf’s on separated rings (segments) , to count their area. Bigger ring will have a more people and so on...
  6. Make a model :)

I hope that I don’t  sound too much pretentious :)


You could also get a more accurate loft by using more circles rather than just the ends and middle for each 'knob'.  Pieter's definition (output as in screenshot above) may do what you want though. 

 

As far as your project goes if you can imagine it you can probably build it (at least as a model).
