algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello All,
a new, fairly major, update is now available for download. This release features breaking changes to the Grasshopper SDK and component libraries compiled against older versions may no longer work.
Be aware, this release breaks file-forwards compatibility. You will not be able to open gh and ghx files saved with 0.8.0050 on previous versions, though of course you should be able to open old files without problems. If this is not the case, please yell loudly.
If you're having trouble loading Grasshopper, note that you must have the latest Microsoft C++ Runtimes installed on your machine. They can be downloaded from the microsoft website.
The new release can be downloaded from the usual location.
Here's a list of changes, additions and fixes since 0.8.0013:
I'll add some additional information regarding some of the new UI features in subsequent posts.

Yeah Toggle Preview doesn't do anything, it's a dummy menu item. I've fixed it for the next release, and changed the shortcut keys as well (Toggle Preview is now Ctrl+Q, no more shortcuts for Preview On and Preview Off).

please check:
menu: Window
command: Collapse
If I interpreted right, it would do something close to the Minimize button in the top-right corner, if else is prescribed, what'd that be?
It should do the same as double clicking the Grasshopper window title bar.

Hi,
I wasn't there for a while so until today I didn't have a chance to look to the new update. After starting GH, I get two error messages:
and for some unknown reasons the curve ribbon seems to be quite empty:
The other ribbons look fine. I have downloaded today the newest Rhino 5.0 WIP and the newest Microsoft Runtimes. Re-installing GH did not help.
Are there any ideas what to do? Maybe some component conflicts - can I have a list of default components for this update so I can remove the added ones and see if I get back all of the curve options?
Thanks so far,
Hrvoje.
You need to download all the latest updates for your third-party plug-ins. There were some SDK breaks that render old components libraries un-responsive.
If you run the GrasshopperDeveloperSettings command in Rhino you will see where all the libraries are being loaded from.
Strongly appreciate your effort in improving the UI but I have to protest against the new Preview Toggle and Enable Toggle.
I believe the previous method of having Preview shortcut as Ctrl+Q and No-Preview shortcut as Ctrl+Shift+Q is more user friendly. In practice, the older method of using Ctrl+Q and Ctrl+Shift+Q is making much more sense. I'm a daily user scripting long chunks of GH scripts, and my response to this new feature is completely negative(not because I'm lazy and don't want to adapt).
The old method, I can be certain that when I select all and press Ctrl+Shift+Q, everything goes out.(Similar to the Enable) The new method, the shortcut's behavior is relatively unpredictable, it is prone to mispressed, and the consequence of inverting my preview is a long wait for the display routine to compute.
It is also more meaningful to select a bunch of components, without knowing its preview state, to hide them all simply by one shortcut.
I'm very annoyed by this new shortcut, I dont know others. But I believe for the future development of GH, these shortcuts must be customizable and those settings portable.
Welcome to
Grasshopper
