Create a skin with tension properties around a series of ball

Hi everybody
I am a new user of grasshopper. What i am trying to do is to create a skin around (enveloppe) a series of ball ( each ball tengent to at least another + various radius) I try with metaball (blander) and it works but i can change the (elasticity or tension) of the skin.
thanks for your help...

Metaballs and Fabric simulations (I presume you mean something like this when you talk about tension) are two quite different approaches.
The first is based on scalar fields and implicit surfacing, and results in a mesh with a fairly messy mix of quads and triangles, while the second is based on dynamics and usually involves networks of 1D springs (plus collision detection if you want to wrap around objects).

It really depends what you are trying to achieve. What is this for?
This is exactly what i am trying to do ( we (my office) win a competition (landart) this summer and we need now to build it (so we need precision) The sculpture is 4 meter height by 40 meter long (a series of 43 spheres with different dimension ( 3.6 meter to 1.2 meter) build in concrete and envelopped by a translucent fiberglass skin. this is a image of the competition.
thanks for your help.

Pascal,

Interesting project. How do you plan to construct the fiberglass skin?
a thermoplastic retractable membrane skin as support for the fiberglass application.
Pascal, word on the street is that the next version of GH will have metaballs:
And when do we get to try this neat feature? :)
I am looking at trying to do a similar thing - basically a fabric simulation.
I'm looking at taking a pre-shaped flat plane and laying it over a contoured form and seeing how it 'sits'. There is also a need for it to wrap around so based on above there would be the need for collision detection.
I want no or minimal stretching - ideally degree of stretching would be similar to curve degree and could be increased decreased depending on my 'fabric'- any ideas on how/if this is currently achievable in GH would be appreciated. I have thought it may be possible just using curves that i later use to form a surface but haven't yet gotten that to work either.
From what i can see this isn't possible in Rhino either only implicit surfacing.
hi! it's possible to have the definiton of your wip?
i'm looking for something that in grassshopper can recreate a drape or a cloth above some boxes!
thanks in advance

hello!

i was looking around and found your project. it is possible to get this definition? would be nice!

thanks
