Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Everyone

Does anyone have any ideas on how to created weighted 3D Voronoi structures inside a defined brep or mesh. I am able to create 3D Voronoi structures yet no idea on how to weight the points.

I have seen how to create weighted 2D Voronoi diagrams using cones though can't get my head around the best way to created weighted 3D Voronoi structures.

Any thoughs??

Cheers

In theory you could create spheres around the points, with the radius representing the weight of the point. Then the section planes created by the spheres should give you the 3D diagram. But I'm not sure it's a viable solution in GH. By the way, I'm curious how do you create 3d voronois without weight?

Hi Tihanyi,

Had a little look into spheres but could not get them to work as expected but will have another go later. I have been using this http://www.grasshopper3d.com/profiles/blogs/3d-voronoi-for-grasshopper  to create 3D Voronoi I guess they are not without weighted but its only possible to influnce their size with the distance of other points in the diagram.

Cheers

have you had any progress? I am trying to create a weighted 3d voronoi as well

If i remember right, i ended up controlling sizes purely by distance and alignment to other points in the diagram. This was all done long before the GH Voronoi Component, using Qhull mind.

do you have the script available? I am developing one myself, by making the points poles generating magnetic field and being able to influence their neighbour cell but I am not sure its gonna work...
