Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Minor but important update to 0.8.0008. This release fixes three bugs, two of them rather serious:

  • Curve Offset was completely hosed deep down. Seems to be working a lot better now.
  • Text Panel text would fade out over time when the zoom dropped below 80%.
  • One-Over-X component would consistently return the highest possible Integer or Floating point number.

Download the new release from the usual place.

If you didn't see the What's New list for 0.8.0008 you can read it on this post.

I think I understand your problem and of course respect that standard. I certainly didn't ask for abolishing that unit from Grasshopper. All I can say is that Radians in the world I'm currently living in play no practical role whatsoever. No Tool, no Machine, no Coworker and no Supplier thinks or is even familiar of Radians.

I would be equally annoyed when Rhino insisted to think in Imperial Measurements and made me manually input a non scriptable Variable additionally to the actual command... only when I need a certain Length in the Unit system which is the only understood by me, my rulers and my machines.

I feel that you are hesitant to let such a conversion appear somewhere in the GUI.

Couldn't there be a Global Unit Switch?  I am sure that would help many people.

As I'm at it: Another subtle thing which I believe could get enhanced.

I remembered that you had something added with Radians in its name but I had no idea into which

toolbar this new Component went.  So I could at least bring it up with DoubleClick...

For better systematic understanding and also in order to make finding related but more suitable Components faster I'd however find very helpful to have its Toolbar-Path denoted inside the Tooltip or at least in the Help for this Panel!

Yeah that makes sense. I should add decent tooltips to those popup search results and embedding the tab+panel text would be relatively easy.

Thank you very much!

Hi David,

If you are going to be spending some time on the Keyword Search, would you be able to see about making the search get past a single word like Split for example.

that was fast, thanks again

And one last for today:

The option to doubleclick the Canvas to search for components is brilliant, I use it all of the time.

Also using the Arrow-Keys work really well now - but there's one last thing which helped me here:

Would you see an option to trigger the Popup-Description for the listed items?

In this screenshot I'm looking for a certain rotate option.  Also in this context the Tooltip Description could help picking the correct entry. I realize that making this look clean isn't easy (my Screenshot is certainly not meant as a possible Design).

Was making the Tooltip for an entry available after a certain delay or when using e.g. the unused (but nearby) left-arrow-key or Ctrl. an option?

Can I just say I love the new slider=10 to get integers and slider=10.0 to get decimals

Thank you

David, thanks for the continued updates ---

I just noticed some odd behavior in this new version.

I often "label" portions of my definitions with oversized text panels, so i can easily see what's what when zoomed out.... In this new release, the text, no matter the size, seems to fade out as you zoom out.

Any reason for this?

I'm still unhappy with the number slider properties window but I assume these are still a work-in-progress... (wish i could tab from field to field as in previous versions, and I wish the max/min would automatically update if you type an out-of-range value, but i may be in the minority on this one...)

You can't Tab from one field to another in the Slider Properties?

I forgot to multiply the Panel font size with the zoom factor, so instead of not drawing panel text when it gets below 5pt visually I stop drawing text when the zoom gets too low. Which is fine for normal font-sizes, but when you use huge fonts it's not correct. I'll fix it.

re slider properties window - Ah, I checked again - at first I didn't notice the very subtle highlighting of the rollers - and I didn't try typing, but that works. It's getting *closer* to the ease-of-use of the previous versions. I wonder if you could change the behavior so that when you've double-clicked into one field and then tab to the next, it would change to white-bg highlighted text rather than the roller? and then exit the dialog box when you press enter?

Hi David

Thank you for the the curve offset upgrade!
