Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Grasshopper Hangs on every change to canvas...

I'm having a new and exciting problem here --- Grasshopper (8.0010) hangs for a few seconds every time I make any change to the canvas - connecting a wire, dropping a new component, etc.

once the "freeze" thaws, there is no problem panning around the canvas, editing geometry in rhino, etc, but whenever i make any change, it just pauses...

Another thing to note --- this is only happening at home. Normally I work in GH from the office, but today I've brought my work laptop home. Same computer. Same setup. The only difference is my network connection - at home I'm on my personal wifi and connected to my work VPN, whereas at work i'm hard-wired onto the local network.

So, I imagine the performance issue has something to do with this --- my work VPN is notoriously slow when accessing from home, so if GH or Rhino is attempting to access some temp file on the network drive, that may be causing the lag.... but I have no idea what it could be looking for, since all the files i'm working with are on my local hard drive.

has anyone else had this kind of issue? it's really quite annoying, and it's stopping me from getting any work done at home.

any ideas?

a little more info --- I disabled "autosave" and the problem disappears....

When you say that all your files you are working on are on the local hard drive. Is this as "Always Available Offline", if so then I think the connection to the VPN will override this and therefore autosave to your server and then update the offline file.

If you disconnect from the VPN does it change the performance with autosave on?

when i disconnect the VPN there is no change in the behavior....

i am experiencing similar issue and on my alienware laptop only

tried the autosave solution doesnt work for me

my othe laptop works perfectly fine

it also consumers more power is what i have observed in the task manager dialogue box

Same problem here! Disabling autosave resolves the problem, but it's a risky way to work.

I have tried saving the .gh file that I am working on to the Desktop of my local machine instead of the server. This does not resolve the issue (with Auto-save enabled).

I have also tried moving the location of the autosave folder. This does not resolve it.

Any ideas about what Grasshopper might be doing over the VPN?

I tried using a windows firewall log file, but I am only getting IP addresses and it is tough to see what grasshopper's role is.
