algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello Clemens,
I am running into an issue: I need to perform an analysis on a surface that will be an installed pavilion on a beach. I opened the Shell Optimization definition and the Bridge Optimization definition from the website and immediately get an error for Cross Section Optimization. It says it references version 1.2.0 but that version no longer exists. How do I obtain this plugin.
What I am really after is just know the amount of deflection and possible lift the surface will undergo at certain wind speeds i.e. 10mph, 20mph, 30mph, and 50mph, then adjust the cross-section thickness at the areas under the greatest stress while reducing it at areas of low stress.
I have attached the surface I am working from and an image of the error I receive.
Thank you,

Hello Bradley,
sorry for my late reply.
Did you have a look at the examples that come with Karamba? They are situated in the plugins-folder of Rhino which you can open by double-clicking on the Karamba desktop icon.
In your case I would apply a local MeshLoad which acts perpendicular to the surface. Make sure to apply the wind load in such a way that no parts cancle out each other.
From the wind speed you can calculate the basic wind pressure q. For the form factor I would suggest c = 2.0 so that the characteristic wind-pressure would be 2*q.
You should optimize the structure not only for stress but also for deflections (max u < l/150 for cantilever-like parts, max u < l/300 for beam-like parts) in order to avoid wind induced vibrations.
Make sure that the structure does not fly away by checking the support forces.
Best,
Clemens
