algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi Karamba Users!
I am currently working on principal stress lines but I don't understand how to improve line's precision.
I made a shell with large deformation of a plate supported on 4 edges (deformed mesh into brep) and I try to create "clean" principal stress lines on it (see photo attached and grasshopper file).
I have some trouble at the top of the shell where the lines are messy, is it due to the curvature? How can I improve the precision of the lines?
Thank you very much!
Francois

Hi Francois,
it seems like there are gaps in your shell which cause the irregularities (see attached definition).

Hi Clemens!
Thank you very much. It seems that the definition of my shell was bad (deformed mesh converted into NURBS). I re-patched it and it is far better!
Best,
Francois
how can you explain or describe those lines in relation to the structure? as tension and compression stress lines.
Dear Abdullah,
the principal stress lines are formed by integrating the directions of the first and second principal stresses of a two-dimensional stress state on a layer of a shell. They give the direction of the largest and smallest in-plane normal stress in each point they pass.
Best,
Clemens
