algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi everyone,
I am trying to model this simple rectangular frame to analyze a wind bracing system.
The issue I have is that the wind bracing elements take part of the vertical load of the floor, which they souldn't because they're supposed to respond only to horizontal loads.
I think the problem is in the "beam-beam joint" modelling or maybe in the fact that I should use a "spring cross section" for the wind bracing elements.
Does anyone have some suggestion on how to solve this problem? I attach my .gh definition of the problem.
I thank you in advance,
Davide.

Hi Davide,
at the moment your columns and the bracing elements have the same cross section area.
Normally the cross sections of the wind bracing can be much smaller than those of the columns since the resultant vertical loads are in most cases larger than the resultant wind load.
You will see that the columns will start to attract more vertical load when you increase their cross section area relative to that of the bracing elements.
Best,
Clemens
Hi Clemens,
I solved the problem by changing the joint's dof and by creating a special material of 0 kN/m^3 to apply to the wind bracing elements; thanks a lot for your reply!
Best,
Davide.
