Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I am able to get the  Sweep2 Component to work from one ellipse to another, but when I try to rotate the top one I can't seem to get the Sweep to work.  The component doesn't show an error, it just gives "empty Brep parameter" as the output.

Probably overlooking something simple, but I have gone over it enough times that I thought I would put it out as a question for anybody willing to look.

Thanks for any time spent looking

When I open your file it seems to be working fine.

Scrolling your "Twist" slider will cause failure because your sweep curve should be located at the start of your corresponding rail curves.

Taz, Thanks for taking a look at the file.

I too am able to sweep the two curves, until I rotate the top.  Is there a way to redefine where the "start" of the top ellipse so that it remains in line with the rail to sweep?

Maybe I need to go about this an entirely different way.  When I bake an iteration where the top curve has rotated, I am able to sweep2rails from within Rhino, but it would be nice to keep it in Grasshopper for visualization.

thanks for any ideas

Check out the definition.  The seams remain aligned.  I may have missed some subtlety though.

Chris and Taz, Thanks again. It is now working the way I had hoped. I tinkered a bit with Chris's version and I was able to get the bottom ellipse to stay put while the top twisted...

and still allowed a sweep to happen.

It is nice to have this part working as I can see how awkward many of the forms are as I make changes.

Thanks to you both.

Whoops, I guess I didn't clarify but in the second image I added a component [Start/End Pt] so your twist would work.

Looks like you worked out roughly the same solution anyway!
