Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey all,

Let me explain the structure and the problem:
I have several square geometry. The dimension of each square is 4,5cm x 4,5cm. The material is a thin pice of paper.

My goal is to transform (overlap) the cuts in the middle with several angles. So I wanna create different geometries with the same form. The overlapping angle swayed the highest geometrie point in the middle.

The next step is to connect these squares and create some arches. The hardest point is to create with different parameters in grasshopper different angles to show what is happening.

I hope u can help me! Thanks a lot!

Best regards

@Joseph Oster: The definition works. ;) Nice :)

The "Cull Pattern" creates with the "bake function" two "shells" with two different sections. Front an back section (pictures)

Is it possible to "bake" directly one shell with cutted ends?

Yes.  But if you don't understand how, I don't think more hints from me will help.  Good luck.

Hey @Joseph Oster: I created some more new structures with the gh definition. It works fine! At the moment I want to ask your one question: Is it possible to rotate the line to the middle point of the cound around 90 degree? If I wanna unroll the surface, I need another direction. Do u have some tipps? I try to describe the situation with two pictures. I already try to change the "EvalSrf", "Pt", "Cap", "Area" etc.

Thanks ;)

You can rotate the plane ("frame") being used by the 'Cone' component.

FYI, the LunchBox plugin has an 'Unroll' component.

LunchBox 'Unroll' generates 48 planar trimmed surfaces:

Hey, hey! Thanks for your friendly response. You are gorgeous ;) I did it and it works fine! Nice. Would it also possible to rotate the plane on every secound cone? (Picture).

I also have this LunchBox plugin. I will try it!

Would it also possible to rotate the plane on every secound cone?

Yes, of course.  Several ways to do that...  Honestly though, there must be a point where learning Grasshopper (or anything else, for that matter) has to develop into a more effective strategy than random stabbing in the dark ("I already try to change the "EvalSrf", "Pt", "Cap", "Area" etc.") or getting stuck without asking a question about everything.  What ideas do you have to solve that problem?

Here's a code snippet for separating out those unrolled surfaces; sweet, eh?

P.S.  Add one more 'Flip' after the last 'Move'.

Hi, hi! Nice. This definition is very clever for creating a physical model. At the moment I am trying to extrude the final geometrie ("cones") but there are some problems. I pluged the (Extr component -> Z vector into D and Srf component int E) into the cone output but it doesnt work very well. I dont know how. The thing is, that I can not extrude the srf later in Rhino. So I need the definition before. I think its very complex, right?

It would be fine, if the structure has a thikness like a material (for example 3cm in 1:1 Scale). The geometrie looks at the moment like this ...

Hello, so please show me your definition / model in 30 min ;)

It is more complicated than u think right now dude ;) (double curvature in different directions)

You did all this manually? It looks parametric. I agree with your previous comment, sadly I dont have many "manual" rhino modelling skills besides the basics.
