algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello,
I'm trying to map a DWG to the surface of a sphere, I achieved this with an O.K. outcome with Map to Surface, but with limited parametric ability to change how it appears on the sphere (I'm trying to get the river pattern going around the "equator"). (I know it wont be perfect going from a rectangle to a sphere)
Although I am generally happy with the current outcome, I really need help with extruding the curve.
I want to extrude the curve on sphere straight inward (Linear?) so it cuts into the sphere .5-1 inch in depth (later to be 3D printed).

I guess(????) that he's attempting to "sculpt" the sphere against the biggest(?) BrepFace (+ holes) - or some user identified BrepFace anyway or a thickened BrepFace Loop.
A task rather impossible given the very problematic collection of curves used (duplicates, overlaps, etc etc). That said in certain "similar" cases Rhino Methods fail without warning.
For the image I used to generate those lines, I brought it into Illustrator and made line work out of it then exported it as a DWG for Rhino...Would it be better to process the image with Grasshopper?
Im kinda stuck with that image of that river..

Your script worked really well, thank you, indeed my curves were a mess. I cleaned them up and it works quite well!
The final Solid Difference though gives me a jagged line around all the edges..how can I solve this?
Also, how can I tell how deep its cutting into the sphere? I need it to be .25 inches deep.
(P.S. its not so much a big deal, but it doesn't use all the smaller curves to cut into the sphere, just the largest one, is it possible to include those smaller ones?) I haven't tried running it twice and leaving out the big curve, maybe then it'll do it...

Well ... I have bad, bad and bad news:
1. Rhino is NOT CATIA (i.e. if "solid" ops are on demand > long is the path and hilly).
2. I never work with Rhino thus I don't know what is solid's BrepFace count limit.
3. Your "big" curve is very taxing (see 2).
4. Your "big" curve creates artifacts in all my Kepler Quadros (K4200 and up > see 2).
After inspecting what to take ... toggle the doTheMoprh thingy (good luck).
Moral: may the Force (the dark option) be with you.
And this ... makes some(?) sense(?) more.
See the added 4th mode, the deltaZ for the mapping Box ... and maybe most importantly the thing at the end that reports the depth.
Note: If I liked meshes I could be tempted to speed up things by using meshes ... but fact is that I hate meshes.
And this V2B is a bit more elaborated (added a 5th selection mode plus some other things). Switching entirely to code (V3) is available as well.
