Rhino w/ GH - not accepting certain keystrokes

I'm having a problem - this occurs fairly often, but seemingly at random, and I can never predict it, or recreate it... (I tried searching the forum here for a solution, but had no luck... please let me know if this has been solved in another thread...)

On occasion, when working with Grasshopper (0.9.0014)on Rhino 5 (5.1.20927.2230, 09/27/2012), the Rhino command line stops accepting certain keystrokes.

For example.... Grasshopper open, everything working fine in the GH window. In Rhino, I attempt to enter a command. Say, "scale" - I can type the command, just fine, but if I hit Enter (or riight-click) nothing happens - as if the key is broken.

Other keys - same issue:

Esc - nothing

Ctl - combinations - act as if I'm hitting only the second key... for example, Ctl+Tab will put a tab-size space in the command line, not switch between viewports.

This only happens with Grasshopper open - and only if i have a definition file open. With a blank canvas, Rhino works as expected....

So. Any ideas??

It's a known bug that's been there for years, but we can't figure out what's going wrong. Whenever it happens to me Rhino stops responding to Enter, Delete, Escape and Right Mouse Button. I can still use Space to enter commands. After a while the problem tends to go away, though it is so annoying to use Rhino in between that I usually restart. We'll keep trying to figure this out, but no guarantees.

Can't seem to make the problem go away by following his steps. The moment I notice the bug is usually when I try to switch viewports using the CTRL+TAB or CTRL+SHIFT+TAB shortcuts in Rhino to see my GH output from different angles. Perhaps these initiate the problem?

I've seen this keystroke error a lot too.
I found that closing Grasshopper and then running the GrasshopperUnloadPlugin Command rids the issue for the moment. So at least it is not required to close Rhino alltogether.

Hi there David.

I have noticed that this issue tends to only affect my setup when I use multiple monitors. When on just one screen/laptop, I never get this issue.

Hey, just to add to the list of things that might fixed it.

I experience this bug fairly regularly, usually mid selecting a Brep or Vector in rhino or when managing collections. space works but Cancel / _Cancel command in Rhino doesn't respond to cancel the current operation so I cant save in rhino.

The way Ive found that cancels opperations is just to hit rebuild on a random object (whatever is selected) and then just hit cancel. It clears the command line from whatever grasshopper froze on and then just unloadgrasshopperplugin and relaunch it. sometimes grasshopper will come up blank and not load a document, if this happens save in rhino and then grasshopper will return to normal. Has worked for me 3 or 4 times now so I know it seems random but its my hail mary whenever things freeze up

Hi all,

Just ran into this bug, it only happens when i open a certain definition that was made last July 2013 in an older release. I tried opening new instances of rhino, copy and pasting the definition into new .gh files... no luck. it's definitely connected with this one definition, and i can recreate it by opening it.

space bar is a work around, albeit a frustrating one when youre used to enter/delete!

I take back my original comment that it happens with only one definition. I'll send you one definition where it occurs to your email. It seems to default enter to "Command:_Insight"
