algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi all,
I have been very frustrated about how to nest unrolled triangles for 1 - 2 weeks, and then I saw Antonio Turiello's "Generation" plugin! I was so happy and tried it, but the programme halted since there were 1640 triangles to be nested. There seems too many for the plugin/Rhino.
I have emailed Antonio about the issue but I need to get the job done within 48 hours...
I would like to nest all the triangles on the left to the 4 pieces on the right. Actually the switched-off layer are the real shapes of the boards (combined), but I cannot get a curve into the "Generation" plugin, so I made 4 rectangles.
I am using leftover transparent acrylic boards(2 of them), white acrylic and MDF boards for cutting. I wanted the triangles to be arranged onto 4 boards randomly, as long as there is a mix of materials.
I need to assemble them quickly, so I think labels are a must for me.
I am so overwhelmed with work, and I hope someone here could do me a favour by nesting them. I have booked a laser-cutting machine 4.5 hours later... All the other times are fully booked by colleagues.
I tried SVGnest but it also couldn't do what I wanted. I originally wanted to batch plot all the triangles in AutoCAD and then I realized I need to change the layers and so. Tried Cam Nest but it couldn't load any of the triangles at all.
Thank you very much for any help! I hope I can finish this soon.

Yes, I am doing it by hand and I totally want to smash the computer
The offset (between the triangles?) doesn't matter, right?
I see! the one i use is ok for glued edges, so i didnt mention it
Agree Its better to do it by hand. It 'll take some time but It can be surely done
Do you guys know any good nesting software which can batch process so many triangles?
I tried to arrange the pieces bit by bit, like i wanted to arrange 200s of them on one of the boards first, using the Nesting definition of the "Generation" plugin, but it is still loading (i started running it at least 2 hours ago)
Hi Hin,
as I told you by email, about your problem I suggest an intermediate approach between manual and automatic: working, with my 'nesting system', both on a few elements at a time and on a single sheet at a time.
