algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Dear Karamba team,

Concerning the "Optimize cross section" component in Karamba, it is based on what criteria ? Moments, tension/compression stresses, deflection, ... ? what does this component do in order to find the optimized cross section.

Is there a way to get the cross sections found by the "Optimize cross section" component as an output list for each finite element ?

the 'Optimize Cross Section'-component first chooses the cross sections in such a way that under the given loads they satisfy the limit load criteria according to Eurocode 3. In case that a maximum displacement is prescribed by the user, a second step consists of increasing the cross sections appropriately. For details please see the manual.

In order to retrieve the cross sections of each finite element disassemble the model that comes out of the optimization ('Disassemble Model'-component), then disassemble the elements ('Disassemble Element'-component).

I wasn't aware of the disassemble components ..

Concerning the cross section optimization it is done according to EC3 in case of steel elements, what if the element is concrete, would it be done according to EC2 ? You know EC3 it just for steel design not concrete ... So the component will be aware to switch to EC2 if the section was concrete ?

Dear Ibrahim,

in Karamba 1.2.2 the EC3 procedure is the only option. In order to estimate the feasability of reinforced concrete members one would have to work with a reduced concrete strength (using the EC3 procedure).

The calculation ot the reinforcement has to be done in a second step on the basis of the calculated cross section forces using programs such as INCA2 (see http://www.u-pfeiffer.de/inca2/inca2-09.html) or Response2000 (see http://www.ecf.utoronto.ca/~bentz/r2k.htm) or others.
