Magnetic field / FlowLines / Field Lines

Hello everybody, 

for my studies i'm working with magnetic / electric fields as well as flow lines, isopotential lines etc. 

I try to develop my project like this: https://vimeo.com/5378825

Do you have an idea how it works. From my point of view it's not very difficult to get the floor pattern (for example with electric fields or flow lines plugin) but I neither have an idea how to construct these vertical columns nor the staircase...

Maybe you can help me or even show me an example how to do it?

Maybe I can ask you another question in terms of my project? 

Now I've got the electric field lines (see image).

Next they should follow their way up the rectangle above and connect it. 

Do you have an idea how- and if it's possible?

Yes, but not circular.

The lines shell orient evenly on the rectangle edges.

I am doing a similar project to your reference on Zaha Hadid's field lines interpretation. I was wondering if you found a way to move the point charge vertically to construct the column?
