Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I am doing electrical pannels. A customer want a bunch of holes in a ploygon (let say a letter). Since Rhino dosen't have a filling command (has only hatch - which it is no good for me) I post my question in Rhino web group. A guy from Rhino group make me a grasshopper file. Everything is working properly but I need to have a possbility to fill that polygon:

- with a user selectable polygon;

- insert a distance between polygon which need to be filled;

- insert a distance between filling polygons;

- eliminate the incomplete filling polygons.

I'll attach the receve it file

Thank you for your time.

Hi Gabi, I thought about that, it is possible you just need to relate the distance between the centre of the circles as a sum of the radius plus the separation you need.

I'll have a look at it later if I log onto my pc ( i need to finish some stuff on the mac side today, sorry) and I'll send you a test file I create with a new definition, please bare with me.

Cheers

No worries. When you have time. Good luck with your work.

Hi Gabi, new definition, test file and screen shot enclosed.  I hope it works this time.

I put a single definition for single or multiple curves objects (1 or 2) any other case may not work! for different shapes.

The distinction between objects is if there is a single outline or a curve inside otehr curve.

If you run into any problems try reselecting the curves. I gotta go!

There is so much room for improvement on the circle packing routines, this is only a start really, I hope it helps!

Cheers

Nice!

I can't help but think of Light-Brite, which of course I Googled to remember the correct spelling, which of course now has an online app:

Hi Evert,

Many, many thanks. Everything it is working as it is should be. Again many thanks.

Hi Gabi/Taz

I though having a go at Galapagos to try to "optimize" the number or circles.  So I tried with the h and the results are quite good, the maximum number is not necesarily the best looking but at the begining (371) with the parameters for the origin of the grid at 0,0 it went to 377 with the parameters just below 0,0.

The best looking fillings are around 362-366 circles

anyway I just wanted to let you know.

Def enclosed

Cheers

Evert,

This is terribly old and thus probably doesn't work anymore...

Can you pack the entire "Rhino" with circles (including the i)?  Whatever routine I was using (some kind of intersections) I had trouble with i's.

Hi Taz,

Thanks for replying. I haven't got my pc booted at the mo, so I'll have a look at your def, tomorrow.

Cheers and have a good weekend (whatever is left anyway)  8)
