Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Is there a straightforward way to triangulate and quadrangulate meshes with grasshopper?

I want to emulate the command behavior from rhino. In particulate, pass a mesh to a triangulate mesh function and either triangulate or do nothing if already triangulated.

Join the "[uto] tools Plug-ins" group and check out their mesh tools.  Very useful!

Many Thanks. I have tried to install the MeshEdit.gha plugin but the drag and drop procedure fails with "I don't know what you want me to do". I have tried both Gh 8.0003 and 8.0004. I do not have a copy of revision 8.0001 to try it with. SCRATCH THAT. IT DID LOAD. I am trying it now.

Close but still not there. The triangulate function under analysis only functions on non planar meshes? Trying to go from an exploded mesh to triangle primitives to a re-welded mesh. Can't figure out how to use the triangle primitive?

Does "exploded mesh" = "individual quad faces"?

It would be helpful to show what your trying to do with a few screengrabs.

Got It. Definition and screenshot enclosed. triangulates quad, triangular, and quad-triangular mixed meshes with stock GH components.

You were close...  This should work for you.

You can ignore the warning messages because welding cleans up the mesh later.

Thanks Taz,

Quick question...Is your change to produce a water tight mesh? While I am not producing a closed mesh the vertices all appear to be welded into one mesh in the def I posted.

Well it depends...  Are you starting with a polygon mesh (mesh made of multiple meshes) and you want to maintain and triangulate each original mesh?

That can also be done with data tree type manipulation.

Can you show me a simple example of what you are talking about with 2 or 3 simple meshes as example inputs?

taz,

a question going back to this definition. Are you able to mesh the resulting surface? Looking through other threads it seems that you would need to construct your own mesh coordinates? A little lost here.

Actually, got into data tree stuff a little further down the road. Think I understand what you were talking about. Thanks for your help.
