Sorting points according to their X&Y values into tree branches

Hi all.

I have a bunch of points. Some of the points have the same X&Y coordinates, but differs in Z coordinate. I would like to put all the points that have the same X&Y coordinates into a tree structure.

pts2besorted.3dm

As a result, I will have a tree, with each branch containing one or more points that share the same x&y value.

Appreciate any advice given.

Hello Wiley,

I found two ways to solve your problem.

One uses the Human plug-in components and is easy.

The other uses only native GH components but is a bit more complex.

Both are show in the image below, but only the native components are included in the gh file I uploaded.

I hope this is what you're looking for.

WOW!!

Thanks FRiou.

I always opt for a native approach because it pushes us to learn the grasshopper logic.

The data management always has been hard for me and it's fascinating how you used "replace paths" for this problem.

Thank you!
