Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello all,

I was wondering what the easiest way to pack geometry inside of a geometry so that nothing goes outside of the bounding geomethry.  Say I have a cylinder, and want to fill it full of truncated octahedrons.  The size of the internal geometry would be the same all the way through but I'd like to have the ability to customize it (say spheres or cubes) and change the bounding geometry to say a blob.  I've attached a gh of my start... would I need something like Kangaroo?

Thanks for any help!

From previous discussions 3D nesting is a bit of a tough nut to crack...

You could use Pack Rat but I think it only works with rectangular objects.

Jon, since truncated octahedra are space-filling, I constructed a 3d array of them and then picked all those that were within the cylinder. Have a look.

I've been trying an array of the shape and then cull out those outside of the shape... did you mean to attach something?

Sorry. Hope it appears now....
