algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hey,
I'm a spiral-addict and during my time with the Rhino/Grasshopper Demo I created this little setup that I thought may be interesting for other beginners as well.
It basically allows you to create spirals around straight or curved center splines with a second spline defining the radius of the spiral.
You can also control the density of the spiral and the subdivisions.
Feel free to improve and expand on this! :-)
Here an example with low density:
And here one with high density:

Tom

Very nice. I have been trying to make a spiral path on a sphere. I took your model and was trying to make a spiral surface but have yet to solve that (noobie). I never would have come up with your method for creating this curve. What do you suggest?
Well, create a line from bottom to top of your sphere as the centre line of the spiral.
Then create a half-circle arc between the two end-points to define the radius with the second input.
That gives you a spherical spiral.
Then project that on the surface of your sphere to do with it whatever you like/need?
Cheers,
Tom
Here are the files I have used.
