Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello everybody,

Sorry for a basic question, but I have been on it all day, so time to swallow my technical pride and ask for a pointer.

need to extract an element from a 2 dimensional tree.

so, say I have 45 x 10 elements. I want to extract 1 element, randomly, from each of the 45 rows. As I am going to pick 1 of the 10 elements randomly, I cannot use a simple path mapper / mask.

what is the simplest way to do this?

Hello Mark,

assuming i understood what you are after (its way past my bedtime) this could be a way

you can use tree item component, along with tree statistics component. a random component generates random indexes that are selected. it should work with any tree, that has equal N items in each branch.

cheers

alex

hi Alex,

Thank you, that worked beautifully. Some how I have overlooked 'tree item' and the usefulness of 'tree statistics'. much more elegant than the mess I was coming up with (18+ components and growing)

warm regards
