Actually, 'View | Grid Options' takes you to the same choices under 'Document Properties', which apply when 'Wireframe | Grid | Grid usage' is set to 'Use Document Settings' instead of 'Use Mode Specific Settings'.  Same for 'Shaded', 'Rendered', 'Ghosted', etc.

A bewildering array of options!
