algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi all,
I have noticed that grasshopper has become incredibly slow when previewing (even the most basic) geometry. If preview is turned off the calculations themselves seem to work at appropriate speeds however if it has to preview the geometry it can take minutes just setting a Brep from rhino geometry. If I change the settings to "Rhino Preview Meshes" in viewport settings it seems to 100% fix the problem, however each new file defaults to "coarse preview meshes"... thus I need to change the setting every time I begin a new definition. Is there a computer graphics setting that may be causing this problem? Are others having this issue?

Hey David,
Thanks for the reply. The template seems like a good fix. I have included A GH file. It is not complex and hangs up even on the initial "Loft" between three curves defined in rhino. The graphics then will hang up again any time those curves are manipulated.
Thanks,
Eric
I'm getting slightly worse meshing times using the Document settings, but then I don't have your curves. Could you also post the 3dm file with the starter geometry?
I have uploaded a simple curve file that seems to hang. It seems like it might be an origin distance issue. These same curves seem to loft and shade in reasonable time if they are at the origin.
Wow, even the GH high quality meshing is way faster than the coarse presets. Very strange, but now at least I can start digging.
Incidentally using a coloured mesh is a much faster way to show surface colours. I attached a file with two clusters that sample the curvature on the original surface and display the results as a mesh.
Ah Thank you! The mesh is much faster and graphically what I was hoping to achieve with the original.
Hi Eric,
sorry for asking something else not related to this topic, but I saw your post about Chameleom freezed Revit :

I am having the same problem right now, did you find the reason why Revit been frozen?
Thank you so much,
JL
Hi JL,
Unfortunately I was not able to get it to work consistently and thus have opted for the slower, yet more consistent Hummingbird...Good luck, and if you find a solution I would love to know!
Best,
Eric
I have also tested on Hummingbird AC, but seems like hummingbird AC is not placing the instance at the points correctly, that's why I switch to Chameleom, do you have this problem with hummingbird?
Hmm, You may already be doing this but you have to make sure that you are sending it the points in the correct order. For instance, if you have a 3 point AC in Revit, your list needs to look like the image below with the point order corresponding to the point order in your AC.
