algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi everybody,
I just want to subdivide a surface into many small pieces. Like windows in a wall. Is it possible to create something with grasshopper, so that i can control the frames? - Let's say, I'm sure that it works somehow but I don't know what to do :( I'm a very beginner with grasshopper as you can see.
See also the attachement.

Well...I have a lot of examples on that matter BUT they use solely C# (I've stopped using GH components some time ago - especially as regards data manipulation). You can create datatrees of Breps, stripes, solids, you name it. Notify if you want such kind of stuff (if you don't know C# they are pretty useless).
peter's examples are pretty sophisticated. Here's a simple grasshopper definition that creates a grid of window-like openings in a surface.
Hi Andrew, first of all thank you for your script. But I think it doen't work like i think it should. I need to subdivide a given surface - no matter if it's planr or bended - into smaler frames.
I tried somethink as you can see attached. But I don't know how to connect the points and after that how to place smaller rectangles into them.
Above all, all you need to know is the difference of data type.
Your file has a closed-polysurface which is different from a single surface.
so, you'd better use brep component to import rhino data to GH and then explode it and choose one surface you want to subdivide.
This def. is identical to Andrew's with few differences.
Hi Hyungso,
thank you very mutch!! It works great!!
Have a nice Christmas! All of you!!
Hi Hyungsoo Kim,
I hope you’re fine!? Some months ago I asked for this script you’ve posted here. Now I would like to ask you if you could help me maybe another time.
I think it could be just some kind of “update” of the script above. So what I need:
Is it possible, to divide these frames into various size in the horizontal axe? Just like windows with different size?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon!
Kind regards
C.Render
Hi Hyungsoo,
first of all thank you very much for the script! It works fine. I also find a way to put "Random" in. But now, I have a right-angle object instead of an oval one. With brep your script just edit one side. What do I have to do, to edit all four sides at the same time? I tried box, but it doesn’t work.
Thank you so far!
Thanks! This Version Looks less complex than the previous one, but now my rondom function doesn't work.
Maybe I put it on the wrong place?
Welcome to
